Re: Garden Catalogs

Hello Bobbi,
I have pulled away from catalogs to purchased woodies the past two or
three years. Trying to locate relatively local sources so we can get larger
starts. Getting a bit older and no longer have the patience we once had, I
suppose.
Yesterday we went over to a local Christmas tree grower who had some
ornamentals such as crab apple and hawthorn. We selected two Winter King
hawthorn that were over 6 feet tall. Also one dwarf crab apple to stick
between the larger hawthorn. The hawthorns get to about 25 feet eventually,
the crab apple about 12 feet. One will have red fruits the crab will have
gold. Hopefully, all for the cedar waxwings that flit through here on
occasion.
You may want to consider a trip over to Lexington, KY. Springhouse is
one of the better landscaping and garden centers around the region. Picked
up a weeping redbud and a variegated redbud there this past summer. Miller's
Manor in Indianapolis I like to visit on occasion. I know... this is not
catalog addresses.
Most years I find myself ordering something from Roslyn Nursery, 211
Burrs Lane, Dix Hills, NY 11746 $3 www.roslynnursery.com
I am also quite fond of my own catalog;-)
