[PRIMROSES] huge Shadegardens -- Petasites?

To All Shade Plant Lovers

In view of this Internet Address may be highlighting all shade tolerant
species/plants, in the very near future: I'd like to start, by suggesting a
plant variety which I consider to be the King/Giant of all shade plants.

Petasites.
These plants look more like trees, having huge round leaves "umbrella size"
and looking like umbrellas. Trunk of the stems can be three inches in
diameter, and they can stand eight feet high. They expand into group
colonies via underground runners.

Petasite japonica 'variegatus' is a variegated leaf type, and these are
available from Robyn's Nest Nursery Vancouver Washington <Robydub@aol.com>
at $5.00 per plant. Petasites are frost hardy into Zone 4, preferably
planted in shade (particularly the variegated leaf type?) in a moist setting.

If anyone has a huge yard, and is looking for a really wild looking giant
of a pet plant... look at the Petasites.
