Hi everyone:

I want to clarify something--I've sensed some concern because Paul Aden and
Clyde started talking about a shade plant society and now we have this email
list.  The appearance of this list should make no difference whatsoever.  If
some kind of formal club gets organized--that will be fantastic.  Please
don't feel we are trying to step on anyone's toes by changing this list.  If
a formal society develops, I would llike to see this list serve as a
"on-line chapter" for those who live too far from other members to actually
have "real live" meetings.  One example is the water garden society which
has an Internet Pond group or something to that effect (will have to look
for it again after having bookmark file vanish).

I've found it very discouraging to join societies and then have no meetings
to attend, etc  In the meantime, we are one of many specialized garden email
discussion groups on the internet.  I even found one just for tomatoes the
other day (soon to be posted to my garden list mail page).

Personally, I  love the idea of a society that encompasses a broad category
like "shade plants" because it has gotten cost prohibitive for me to join
the society for every plant species I love.  I am sure many other gardeners
feel the same way.  Please do not feel this email discussion group could
possibly take the place of a general SGS (or whatever the abbreviation winds
up being)--please, keep moving forward on organizing a real world society
complete with some kind of newsletter.  Maybe this group could help generate
ideas or help in some other way?

In the meantime, let's get ready for the next growing season.  I've already
got cabin fever and it's not even Christmas yet.
