In answer to your very nice welcome. I am truly a novice - I retired
from US West in 1990 and then became more interested in hostas. My mom
gave me some "green ones" and some "green and white ones" that she
had had so I could plant them around the back porch which was in the
shade. I have since divided them many times and they now outline the
front maple tree (yes, the dreaded maple tree). The drip line is now
extending so I think this spring I will move the brick border out about
another foot and I've gotten some h. Gold Edger from the pres of our
club who is a very avid hosta person - and I will plant them in front of
the green and green/white ones. My mom would be proud and I'm sure she
is watching over them from above! I will say - the old fashioned ones
are like the Energizer Bunnie - they keep on growing, no matter what
conditions. I now have a few more and I'm hooked - that's a fact! You
inquired about Sea Fire hybridizer - and I would think that would be
Charlie Seaver or his mother, Mildred Seaver - as all of their intros
have "Sea" in them. Charlie was on the hosta robin! Carolyn Hamilton,
Bettendorf, Iowa, Zone 5 - where it snowed a little again today and it
is about 20 degrees.
