I have no intention of registering a hosta or any other plant unless I grow
enough of them to know that what I am naming is either better than what is
already registered, or unique in some way. I also have no intention of
growing enough hostas to properly evaluate them. A name doesn't make a
plant better than others, and frankly, too many good names have been wasted
on plants that don't deserve them. Poor plants do get composted, but good
ones go to homes that will appreciate them, and to people that are not
willing to pay that much for named ones, and are doing good to know that
what they are growing is a hosta.
Incidentally, what do you feel about species?
