My garden plants are not cut back, and that's just the way the Oregon
juncoes like it. The herb beds look especially ratty, but the juncoes don't
eat bird food we put out, instead preferring to help themselves to
agastache, echinacea, sorrel and other seeds.  Therefore we cut back in the
spring when we have a zillion other things to do, too.  Margaret L
