Well, Bill, I get to find out about the Kalmia first hand this
year....just noticed yesterday that they have NO leaves left on them.
As for the rhodies, they should leaf out for you - no bloom, of
course, but they should behave as if you'd given them one severe
pruning. You may lose branches that were nibbled too far down, but
again, you may not.
Best bet is to make sure they are watered in the coming season and
when weather warms up, give them a light dose of a well balanced
fertilizer formulated for acid lovers - I use something called Holly
Tone, but there's probably something similar where you are.
Next fall, you get to net or fence those children:-) I got my
rhodies protected, but not the Kalmias - they'd never eaten those
before.
Four-legged vermin is right!
