Like you and Marge, I also do not fertilize plants in the ground. Here in
the South our biggest problem is not nutrient limitation (since clay soils
are frequently very fertile) but organic matter. The combination of long
growing season, (normally) high rainfall and high temps means that organic
matter decomposes almost as fast as you add it. So I just pour on the
ground leaves, compost, manure, anything I can get....
