Re: Hellebores

Hello Jan,
See Marge has answered this one. Thought I would jump in as well since I am
relatively close to you here in Southern Indiana.
Some hellebores that have done well in my garden from years now are H. niger,
and in several forms. H. x hybridus in all its forms and colors, such as double,
anemone forms. Various colors of bloom. H. odorus, a gold-green blooming hellebore
that is deciduous here. H. purpurescens is very nice in foliage and bloom. H
torquatus has very cut foliage and plum dusted reddish blooms. H. multifidius has
only been around a couple of years, but looks as though it will do OK. H. foetidus
begins forming buds in late December, comes into bloom during February. Best in
March through April. Needs to be protected by the winds for best appearance,
although mine are not.
No one seems to pay much attention to foliage on hellebore and do the raving
over blooms... sure missing one of the best features of this perennial.Have to see
the foliage in the garden to appreciate all the various forms, shades of green
dusted with burgundy, beet-red, silver over black-green.......
One can not have too many hellebores......
