Re: Degrees of shade for plants

Be careful Bobbie - that Roundup stuff doesn't have much of a shelf life.

Good Stuff, Joe,

I also view shade this way...

shade can be from some trees, but how far away are they from the
plantings...on top of, 10 feet away or sun casting shadows from 25 ft
away...

which kind of tree causes this shade, and is the habit of the roots of said
tree also interferring?....

how far up is the canopy of leaves?

what season is it for the growth or needs of the plant in relation to the
understory planting (does it flower in the spring, before the deciduous tree
leafs out?)...

just some more food for thought!

now....a question as I was just out viewing the area where some trees were
recently cut and that ground ivy has taken over...

if I were to use heavy dose of roundup on the ivy, how early can I do this?
(I know that it needs a certain temperature and growth spurt)... my concern
would be the millions and trillions of trout lily that is also alive in that
area, and I just bet are dormant under that ivy...

thanks in advance...

Bobbie in Ma.
