Hello Sue,
Believe you heard from Jim and Dot on cyclamen outdoors.... I grow mine
on an embankment along a path up at about eye level. The soil is pretty
decent with humus. They are planted beneath a small deciduous holly and that
is under the drip line of a mature cedar... plenty of root competition to
keep them on the well drained side. I am not so sure that either species
that I grow would absolutely demand that situation, but it is working. I
hope to try some more corms this coming year in a new area of the garden.
For me C. purpurascens never truly goes dormant.... comes into bloom
about April and stays in bloom through mid-November. Foliage is still out
there and green now..... C. hed. or ivy leaf cyclamen comes into bloom late
November and then the foliage emerges. Only foliage out there now on this
one as well. Foliage can be absolutely lovely when it has the pewter and
silver veining.....
