SUBSCRIPTION OPTIONS

This will: 1.Explain a digest option which separates messages. 2. List the
commands you may copy to send to LISTSERV@MAELSTROM.STJOHNS.EDU for
subscription changes.


 1.  What is a MIME Digest?

Here the scenario:

You would like to subscribe to a discussion list but the list generates too
many messages for you to handle during your busy day.  There are several
messages that you would like to read, save or possibly respond to.

You know the obvious SOLUTION is to SET your SUBSCRIPTION options to DIGEST.

However, you do not want to take the time to "cut and paste" each message
that you want to save, reply-to or forward.

The real solution is to set your subscription options to a MIME DIGEST.

All messages will come to you in one DIGEST.  The difference is that the
messages are "independent" and you can reply-to/forward/save a message as
if it was an individual messages.

The MIME DIGEST is a great way to receive messages.  If you have a post
you want to forward to a colleague, simply highlight or open the message
and forward it.  You can add your comments, correct the grammar or
whatever you normally do when forwarding a message.

2.  SUBSCRIPTION CHANGES

To set your subscription to the MIME DIGEST, type the following command in
the body of your message:

SET SHADEGARDENS MIME DIGEST

sent it to the list serve at this address:

LISTSERV@MAELSTROM.STJOHNS.EDU


To set your subscription to regular digest, type the following command in
the body of your message:

SET SHADEGARDENS DIGEST

To stop all email from the list TEMPORARILY, you may set your subscription
to NOMAIL with this command in the body of your message:

SET SHADEGARDENS NOMAIL

To cancel your nomail setting and resume your list messages, you may type
this command in the body of your message:

SET SHADEGARDENS MAIL

To unsubscribe from the list, you may type this command in the body of your
message:

UNSUBSCRIBE SHADEGARDENS

To resubscribe or give a friend instructions on how to subscribe, the
command to use in the body of a message to the listserv is:

SUBSCRIBE SHADEGARDENS JOHN DOE

(you will need to substitute the subscriber's name for "John Doe," of course.)

Remember, ALL commands for subscription options must be emailed to the
listserv address (not the shadegarden address) which is:

LISTSERV@MAELSTROM.STJOHNS.EDU
