Re: Libel/slander (Was: Re: South Creek Nursery Palmyra NY 14522)

As a nursery owner, it's not the lawsuit part that bothers me - I don't
think gardeners are particularly malicious people ( one bad check in 6
years of business). Rather, it is the ability of misinformation to spread
at the speed of light that gives me the willies.

We Americans tend to shoot (our mouths off) first and ask questions later.
We also prefer gripe and gossip to truth and praise. Just look at the
newspapers in the checkout line.

And since old email never dies (it just gets forwarded), a complaint
posted in a fit of pique can never fully be undone.

Am I asking that you sit on your opinions? No. I'm just asking you to
complain to offending nursery (and give them a chance to make good) before
you rip them on the list.

I used to go to an 85 year old barber who had a neatly handlettered sign on
the wall:

If you like the way I cut your hair, tell your friends.
If you don't like the way I cut your hair, tell me.

I just hope my customers will take it to heart if they have a problem.
