Re: Zone specific books

I know there's a book on gardening in Illinois, but I can't speak for it
except that I looked at it briefly and didn't buy it. It probably covers
everything you find in other gardening books and thus what I already have,
but then concentrates on Illinois. Illinois (for those who don't live here,
there's no "z" sound on the end <bg>) zones go from a small pocket of z4b to
two small areas of z6b; mostly it's 5a-6a. I'm east-central where it's 5b.

Horticulture magazine highlights each region of the states individually, but
don't think it's worthy buying simply for that reason.

Subject: [SG] Zone specific books

Hey Shaders -

Like everyone else, I have been receiving those harbingers of spring -
seed/plant catalogues. With today's temperature at +16 and the wind chill
at -16, my thoughts have turned to the garden . . . what else do you do in
this weather?

Most of the books and magazines that I've seen over the years include all
zones, and while I love visiting Florida, Arizona and California,
information on plant materials for those areas are nice to look at, but
don't help a lot. Is anyone aware of good zone specific books/magazines for
Zone 5? (I have a lot of semi- to deep shade in my yard and am looking to
redesign a few areas.)

We have had a particularly chilly and snowy start to the season. Our
snowfall so far this year is more than we had all of last year, and that
happened before winter "officially" began. Our temperature has been 0-20
for the last four weeks, though there is a warming trend supposedly headed
our way. As you can tell, tropicals probably wouldn't do to well here . . .
LOL.

Any help or suggestions on books for my zone would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Karen
