OK....now when someone says "heave it", I have to make a suggestion. I
have several hundred orchids that have always been pest free from day
one. Until this year. I purchased some cattleyas that came with guests
unbeknownst to me. The orchids sit on shelves for a couple years at a
time, and when I finally found the scale, it looked like white mold.
You couldn't even see the leaf surface. I mixed Isotox up in a bucket,
donned rubber gloves, and after scraping off what scale I could, I held
the pot upside down and plunged it completely under the insecticide. So
far, so good. No recurrance.
Secondly, check the variety of cacti you have. Some have a natural
encrustation found on the ridgelines of the plant. This is not always
found on immature plants. Maybe you'll get lucky.
