  A few suggestions for locating local garden organizations...

  Contact the national organization (easily found on web search mode)
  and then ask about local members/groups

  Watch the newspapers for garden sales/events by such groups
  and ask lots of questions when you get there

  Inquire at the local cooperative extension office

  Ask your fellow on-line list group members for contacts
  in their societies in your area.
