Hi Heidi, I have a feeling I never answered your mail. I got rather confused
at not being able to make more than 2 postings and filed yours away for later.
The French garden is just over 2 years old and when I last saw it in October,
was shaping up well. One section of it I have had for 10 years but was able to
enlarge it by taking in adjascent land. This was rather a chore as it had not
been cultivated for a long time so was full of weeds and self-seeded things. I
worked hard and had a landscaper to shift the soil to make the beds and lawn.
I retained a lot of the old fruit trees and shrubs so it doesn't look too new.
Planting was quite a job and needed a lot of stuff and all the while I had to
keep reminding myself that things would eventually grow and so not plant too
close together. I am hoping that the strange weather we have been having has
not caused too much havoc and that my fish have not frozen to death!
I will go back there end February to see that all is well and do the spring
clean-up. Then as soon as the weather is right start planting the vegetables
etc.. There is always a lot to do but I enjoy it and it really is a joy to see
the garden taking shape and all the plants/shrubs getting bigger.
Mary
