Re: [SG] favorite ground cover? Strawberries?

Hi Lillian,
Just a short note to let you know of my unexpected results with
stawberries.
A friend of mine had plenty of extra plants of a June-bearing variety so
I thought I would try them as a ground cover in an area that I would
classify as "dry partial shade" under a large tulip tree. This area has
of late become a tromping ground for a Beagle mix puppy too. It gets
maybe 2-3 hours of afternoon sunlight at the most with filtered light
throughout the rest of the day.
The last two years they have fruited fairly well to my surprise. They
are slow to spread but they had sent out quite a few more runners this
fall than the previous year. Unfortunately, I don't get to eat any of
the fruit.... remember that beagle mix puppy I mentioned earlier :-) .
BTW, They H. " Persian Carpet" that you sent me is doing quite well
under low level lighting inside. I was afraid to stick it in the ground
when I got it because it was so late in the season around here. It seems
to like it where it is right now. I hope the H. Strawberry Swirl' that I
sent is doing as well.
HTH.
Dale
