Thanks to everyone for the information on Cypripedium ssp. and culture.
I've almost talked myself into buying some.  Re: Lobelia cardinalis and
'Ruby Slippers', will these grow in a marshy area (no standing water, but
soil is waterlogged as heavily as a bog - though no peat)?  There is a
sunny side and and lightly-shaded side to the marsh.
