Hi. I have several of these ('Superba') and they are purplish-pink, and
about 3 1/2 feet tall. They are in a dry part of my garden that's beyond the
reach of the sprinkler. While they are not too happy in a drought they
survive and come back every year. I keep hearing that this astilbe is a
really late bloomer but for me it flowers in mid- to late July, not August.
Okay, I have an astilbe question, too. I have several astilbes that are
supposed to be interesting colors like "carmine" or "peach"--but they just
end up being differing shades of purplish-pink. Could this be due to low
light (about 2-3 hours of early afternoon sun; dappled shade the rest of the
day), or possibly acid soil (5.5)? While I have nothing against lavender,
but really, enough is enough.
Thanks, Nancy S.
