Hi Deb,
I'm a Lifetime Master Gardener, with Cobb Co., Ga., and have been an MG since
1980. Changes in the rules have finally dropped my requirement for annual
service, although i have just turned in oner 250 volunteer hours for the past
year.
The program itself can be a wonderful springboard to a career of service to
the community.
The course itself is not difficult, but does, as everything, require your
attention. All the programs and speakers are designed on a state-by-state
basis, so what they do in Indy is probably a bit different from what is done
in Georgia, or Oregon, or whereever.
The work of course, is important.
I have just finished a year as the president of the, get ready here, Master
Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County. This is a "club" for MG's, and not the
actual service program.
There is also a statewide MG organization, and Regional Conventions, as well
as a national one.
As with so many things, the level of satisfaction is directly related to the
level of participation and enjoyment. You will have many chances to join with
like minded individuals and groups to learnteach and serve.
Congratulations on your acceptance in the program, and I urge you to
volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. There is always someone out there who needs
just what you have to give, in your own special way.
Anything else on the matter, please feel free to post me privately.
Harry Abel
