Since we are covering what I think is a greatly underused group of plants-
grasses and sedges and the posts have been so helpful and valuable- (makes the
Internet worth while).
I would like to know if any one is growing any of the Cyperus sedges? This
genus shows up a lot in some of my dirt deliveries-they are an interesting
looking group of plants-not really showy.....but at least to me ...
fascinating.
It has been said that not many of the native Carex species are seen in
cultivation-hmm I see that there are over 500 native species in North America
and that there are at least twice that many hydrides and local races.
We have a small Cyperaceae that grows here locally. It is 5 inches tall and
grows in bright shade without any direct sun. Makes a nice ground cover mixed
in with my wild flowers. In late April and May it has brown blooms.
