Friday, January 15, 1999....WOW'ee!....what a 'horny day' I'm having today?...did ah say "horny"...yeah sure?...ah meant to say "ORNERY"...and u wanna believe it LUVS!!!
AT 6am....I'm coming off a super highway on my way to work, roadway is all snow covered, tractor trailer's jack-knifed all over the place, but that's ok: cuz they be in the lanes heading into Toronto. Says to myself...yippee I'm early for work, and am already in Kitchener; don't start til 7am, so we be in great shape today?
All of a sudden, ah seez a pot-hole in the road in front of me, the size of a bushel basket "WHAM BAM" both front & rear tires on passenger side are knocked out (flat!) but I can't stop in the middle of the road, so I drives off to the first street and get's off the road. Keep in mind, it's not exactly easy to drive a car on snow, with two flat tires...car doesn't wanna go. Anyway...I get off the road. I stand there looking at car...hmmmm....two flat tires...what do I do now? Anyway, there is a Donut Shop across the street, so I go in and make some phone calls, like to work (can't make it?) home = (help?)....nobody wants to come help me...so I warm up and then go back to the car...which is still running, with four way flashers blinking.
I'm thinking to myself...if I change the front tire (front wheel drive?) then I can pull the other rear-flat tire to a garage to get it fixed. Popping open the trunk, U not believe this?....there be two spare tires sitting in there, lookin me in de eye. Both have air them too? One of them is for a trailer I use, which has the same VW wheels as the car...hey neato. My waterproof nylon jacket & pants, are also still in the trunk, from last October's plant digging, so are the shovels and AH HA!...there is a car jack there too....so I proceed to change both tires.
I'm singin to myself..."on the road again" but, but, but OH'NO!!!....the super highway traffic heading towards Guelph & Toronto....ain't goin anywhere, due to accidents...so I pull a U-turn....and heads back to Guelph...takin other slow roads.
Anyway...four hours later...I'm home now, car is tucked away in heated garage, and "tire shop" is lookin at my two flat tires, and will call me later, to tell whether they can fix, or put new Michelins on. Meanwhile, I'm not goin anywhere today... YIPPEEKIAYE! Mind u, I have to be back on that highway at 6am tomorrow morning, cuz it's my Saturday to work...yuk and MUSH'mush VW JETTA!...."look away, look away, look away, look away" new chorus "oh i wish ah waz in Dixie" ....ah forget it & have a nice day eh?
U'all better believe what I'm writing here? A worse scenario is shapin up...for example, The City of Toronto, had it's subway lines shut down yesterday, because part of the North-South & West-East lines are above ground. The Mayor has declared Toronto a disaster, and our Army Troups are cruising the streets, with all terraine vehicles. Perhaps it is not nice to make jokes like "the ice age approaches?" when it is already here and personally, right about now....I'D RATHER BE IN FLORIDA!!!!...or anywhere?...where the road's snow-banks ain't as high as the roofs of houses....just another Canadian winter?
Always keep laughing tho'...and maybe?...THINK'in SPRING!!!...might help?
ps...oh yeah?...just remembered, the topic here be 'Shadow Gardening' eh, so for that part of it...I say this...de car thawing out in de garage has a license plate which reads [HOSTA] that is, if the six inches of ice on top ever melts off :-B))?) be happy y'all...I'm gone to my Florida Room in the basement....where Hosta seedlings, sown Oct 23/98 need transplanting...80 degreees Fahrenheit, from continuous lighting...the winter games continue....YUP!
