Re: [SG] Heuchera and Tiarella

Kay, I have several heuchera but I don't have the sun to make their foliage
really color up, except in the winter. And I know what you mean about
tiarellas all looking alike. I was in the grip of a major tiarella
enthusiasm a couple of years ago and bought quite a few different kinds. One
advantage of this is that they have slightly different bloom times so that I
have tiarellas in flower for well over two months. That said, my two
favorites are "Tiger Stripe" (hybridized and sold by Primrose Path, which I
hold in very high regard), with long-lasting fairly intense pink flowers,
and "Oakleaf," which has really beautiful foliage shaped like, well, oak
leaves. My current enthusiasm is for the bigeneric heucherellas which have
better flowers than most heucheras and more interesting foliage than most
tiarellas (with the size and shade-tolerance of tiarellas). "Quicksilver,"
again a hybrid from Primrose Path, has really lovely silver foliage and
long-lasting white foamy flowers.
