For Tia - The one I haven't seen mentioned  is Adiantum, Maidenhair fern, one
of my favorites.   They can handle a lot of shade as long as they are in
humusy soil.  The fronds, which grow in a circular way, have tiny light yellow
green "leaves" short and closely spaced.   It is deciduous, and a delight to
watch it unfurl in the spring.

Like Arthyrium nipponicum, the Japanese painted fern, the maidenhair fern is a
contrasting note of color and form and an outstanding specimen plant in your
shady fern garden - these you will not want to miss!
