Abutilon is a common flowering shrub in the milder parts of CA, such as
the Bay Area. It makes a dandy houseplant here in the Lower Midwest and
blooms off and on all year, seemingly immune to insects and disease. I
have it in a hanging basket. Logee's Greenhouse puts out a catalog with
several abutilons in it; the common old fashioned red seems the most
trouble free, either as a houseplant or grown outside in mild climates.
Incidentally, stem cuttings of youngish plants will root in water so you
can easily produce more plants.
