Re: Palace Purple Coral Bell (Heuchera micrantha)
Hello Joe,
Here's a website on heuchera's that you might find interesting
www.lucsperennialworld.com/research.html Got it from Bob A. a few weeks
ago. It has four and a half pages of heucheras---all kinds, with "stars"
given for, I guess, beauty and desirability (it doesn't say what). I have
four 'Palace Purple' plants, but since I discovered the really
purple-colored ones, I just use 'PP' as filler plants. I especially like
'Velvet Knight,' 'Cathedral Windows,' 'Amethyst Mist,' 'Pewter Veil' (my
first of the more exotically colored heucheras), 'Plum Pudding,' 'Stormy
Seas,' 'Ruby Veil,' and the list goes on!
Once I had seen these lovelies, I collect every one I come across
because I think them so beautiful. No more 'Purple Passion' with its "brown"
tones---just the "purple, lavender, silver" ones for me. I find them not
hard to grow---some shade, good soil and enough water. I have some of them
with hostas, some with grasses that get sun part of the day. They thrive in
both settings, although are more highly colored with more sun.
Many of the on-line nurseries rave over heucheras, especially the newer
varieties. Try www.plantdelights.com for instance. You shouldn't have to pay
an arm and a leg for these newer ones. They seem to be more reasonable
on-line than in most nurseries, few of which seem to carry them. Good luck
in locating some!

PS I'd rate 'PP' as a one, compared to the others, but then, I like the
purple tones better than the browns.
