Hosta's and tree ferns
Hello folks = Shouldn't we make it perfectly clear what we are talking
about. Growing Hostas in the South is a very broad statement, and it could
be detrimental for some gardeners hearing this. We should use Zones in
trying to describe where Hostas grow good, instead of "the South".
Here in New Orleans my beloved Home Depot sold a lot of Hostas to a lot of
ignorant gardeners including me, (I tell the good with the bad). At the
beginning of last year I bought 3, and they lasted about 3 months, (and no I
didn't bring them back - darn it).
Hummmmmm! I wonder how many "on Web retail garden stores", would ship
Hostas regardless = to customers in the deep South, Zones 9 or 10???
I posted on 6 Forums Saturday, including the Hosta Forum,
(http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/hosta/ ), asking people that = if they
live in Zones 9 or 10, and have been growing Hostas successfully for one
year, to please let me know if they have, and the name of the Hostas if
possible.
I have had responses from Dallas, California, Alabama, and Houston, telling
me how they failed to grow the Hostas. The Dallas respondent said that his
hobby was growing Hostas around Detroit when he lived there, but he wasn't
successful at all in Dallas. That's strange, isn't Dallas in Zone 7 or 8?
