Joe, foliage color will, indeed, be more intense in sun but in very
hot climates can also burn to a crisp. 'Palace Purple' will turn
green in shade, no question. Try it with morning sun and shade from
middle of day onward...
Sorry to hear Dave's assessment of this genus in deep south as they
are grand plants, but not much sense in torturing them more than
necessary. The same prob. I have with plants from the far, far
north in my garden...sigh.
