Oh, I just thought of another book I like for shade gardening:
Growing Woodland Plants by Clarence and Eleanor G. Birdseye. It's divided
into 2 sections....1st section has the following chapters: Woodland
Conditions, Making Synthetic Soil (huh??), Stepping Stones, Paths, and
Groundlitter, Making the Woodsgarden, Collecting Wildflowers, Care of
Woodsgardens, Shade-houses and Propogation, and Using Surplus Plants, and
Indoor Forcing. The second section is info about specific plants. It also
has a table in the back with the soil pH requirements of these plants, which
I've used to help identify what plants to get for my "acid/northwoods" garden.
