Here in Central Coast California callas are just this side of
noxious weeds.  Every house used to have a great swathe of them,
inhabited by snails, blooming at irregular intervals, making
people sneeze.

We rooted them out aggressively because we wanted to grow other
things and they harbor snails horribly.

They seem to like heavy soil and not to mind getting a little dry
in the summer.
