Claire, thank you for reminding us of the dangers associated with treated
lumbers. We have a deck that is made of treated wood and the support members
of our kids playset is treated. However all the wood that one would touch is
cedar. It is extremely important that anyone who handles treated wood wear
gloves and sawing is done in a well ventilated space with a dust mask.
Given the choice of using treated lumber or railroad ties for support on a
cold frame, I would choose the ties.
