Claire, down in KY where I am from there is a large variety of snakes,
including copperheads, rattlesnakes and water moccasins. The tradition is
that the poisonous snakes all live south of the Ohio, I am not entirely
convinced of that though. <g>
I agree with you, I like snakes, but I also like the wrens. I have been
getting a good population of Carolina Wrens and House Wrens in the last
couple of years now that my yard is getting more overgrown. Snakes are
deadly to the low living bush inhabiting song birds.
I have seen every kind of animal here in suburbia, including coyote and fox,
I have yet to see a snake or a frog or toad. Although I would love to do so.
Oh, to have catbirds and mockingbirds! I miss them so, have not seen a
mocking bird here in about two years but know that they do populate this
area, but they are rare.
Having lived in the country as a child it is so odd to live with houses all
around and animals too! We have those pesky squirrels taking nuts out of our
hands and we love them, they are very silly and give my Boston Terriers a
hard time through the sliding door. If I could just deter them from planting
around my hostas!
