Re: Night-blooming cereus

My secret is beginner's luck, I guess! All I can tell you is that I was
given the cactus last fall. I overwintered it in the garage, where it got
minimal light and water. I was told it is semi dormant at that time of
year and can be ignored. This May I put it out on our north-facing front
porch, and increased the water somewhat but it still stays on the dry
side. I also cut it back quite a lot, but even so it is an ungainly
creature. No ferts, no TLC. A few days ago it produced a curious looking
red flower bud. Surprisingly quickly, it bloomed. I'm wondering if it will
produce any more flowers this summer.

What have others done for success with this plant?

healthy, it has yet to bloom. What is the secret?
