Re: Valerian update

Since the list just seemed to resurface with a question relating to one I have, here goes:

I have always liked Valerian (Centhranthus) but I also have and like the Valerian officinalis.  In fact, the latter reseeds everywhere. I also have Centhranthus ruber, but only the pink and white variety.  I got the latter from a Morgan and Thompson seed packet which was supposed to have white, pink and maroon.  But it only had the pink and white.  I have bought plants which are supposed to be "red", but they are only the mid-pink which I already have.  I have seen the darker red in yards when I drive by, but I have never been able to stop and ask for a cutting.  Is this the only way to get the darker color?  Any suggestions?
