I have a question about Catmint. How invasive is it? It looks pretty in
pictures and in the nursery yard, but none of them say anything about how fast
it grows. The part of the name that says "mint" kind of puts me off.
Virginia, I grow two varieties of catmint (nepeta) and, so far, haven't had
any problems with the neighborhood cats rolling in it. For four years I
watched the plants at our trial garden at the U of I campus before planting any at
home. There were some invasives that had already, in my ignorance, made it
to my garden so the square stem and the word mint made me cautious. They're
wonderful plants but need to be either deadheaded religiously (my method) or
cut back when the bloom diminishes. We're in the same zone as you and are
enjoying them. The varieties are Six Hills Giant and Walkers Low. Just my two
cents on this.
