Dear Robins,
Last year at Indy I bought a salvia named S. nipponica 'Fuji Snow'. Is this a
different cultivar? Mine is variegated, has not bloomed yet, but did survive
zone 5 winter (although it was very mild), which I was not expecting.

P.S. Clyde, I was not able to find the seedling you had the picture of on
your pix list, sorry.

<< One of my other passions is Salvias (perennial kinds, not gas station
Salvias)..I don't grow S. nipponica (yet) but I do grow a related species,
Salvia koyamae. At the moment it is planted among my hostas, receives a few
hous of very early morning sun. At three years of age, it forms a neat
mound about 2 ft wide by 1 1/2 ft high. Leaves are light green, about as
big as your hand, triangular and sparsely hairy. No big time slug or earwig
damage as yet. It blooms August through frost, spikes of clear yellow
flowers. It is a fast grower, hardy here in Z 6b..
S. koyamae and S. nipponica 'Mt Fuji' are both available from Plant
Delights Nursery in Raleigh, NC..
