[SG] kiwi

Kay, are you growing the hardy kiwi with the little tiny fruit, or the
regular ("tropical") type? I ask because I once scraped some seeds out of
a grocery store kiwi and germinated them and grew them on a trellis in my
solarium for several years. They are quite hardy; my solarium is unheated
and gets pretty cold in the winters, maybe 10 degrees warmer than outside.
They were deciduous in that situation. It was fun to see them putting out
little green leaves in spring just like the outdoor plants. They flowered
but never got any fruit. They were vigorous enough (in that environment
anyway) to be attractive without running wild. I bet that in a slightly
warmer zone 6 these "non-hardy" kiwi could survive outdoors.
