I had my Leptinella squalida in a trough with only lattice as shade with
half day sun. In zone five the best bet is L. purpasilla hardy in mild
winters, not hardy in severe winters and just making it in others. This
past winter I had five varieties come through winter. Most of them are
growing in bright but not hot positions, by no means full sun. Some
varieties are more tolerant of shade than others. I have pictures of these
I can scan if anyone is interested. If I remember there was discussion
about Magnolia Grandiflora. I have a good picture of "Edith Bogue" in bloom
I wiill put on my website.
