There is a picture in the Jan-Feb 98 FINE GARDENING of Sambucus nigra
'Purpurea'--the plant is in bloom with lucious peach-colored flowers--that
is irresistible to me. I have the Heronswood catalog; they offer S. n.
'Guincho Purple' but not 'Purpurea'. Another one I want is S. n.
'Marginata', white-edged green leaves. Heronswood has 'Aureomarginata',
with yellow-edged leaves. Does anyone have the Forest Farm catalog? Do
they perhaps sell the cultivars I want?

Bobbi,
Forest Farm lists the following: Sambucus caerulea, callicarpa, canadensis
'aurea', c. 'Johns', c. 'Maxima', nigra laciniata, nigra 'Madonna' ("splashed
brightly and irregularly with gold, perhaps the most colorful of the elders"),
n. porphyrophylla ("wine purple, pink tinted flowers on purple stems), S.
'Marginata', and S. sieboldiana.
My friend has just mentioned that she wants to send an order in to Heronswood.
In fact, I think I still have her catalogue. I have never ordered from them,
but they have a big listing like For. Farm.
