Caladium blooms

A funny thing has been happening with my caladiums. Despite--or possibly
because--the fact that they have not leafed out well this year, they are all
putting out blooms. I assume that they are feeling right at home in the East
Coast's 100-degree weather and extreme humidity. It has happened once before
that a caladium bloomed but not until late August. And I don't remember them
being so gorgeous. The bloom on a red-leafed caladium (don't remember the
name) looks a bit like the lovely Arisaema candissimum (well, a little). I
have this vague memory of reading that you are supposed to cut off caladium
blooms--perhaps to keep the leaves going?--but my inclination is to leave
them on. Does anyone know if this is a mistake?
Also, I want to thank all who wrote about colocasias, especially Kemberly.
I'm keeping mine "boggy" now, and it is beginning to really shoot up.
