They are not a problem unless you want to plant something else in the
place they occupy. They were there when we moved into this house, 25 years
ago. They have spread slowly. I leave them alone; they leave me alone. I
never water or feed them. Maybe they would be more invasive with better
treatment. They bloom in May for a brief period and then look ratty for
months. They survive in total shade, with no supplemental water. Anything
else I planted there would need more care than these guys need, so I
suppose there's no point in trying to dig them out. But believe me, I
wouldn't plant them on purpose!
