<< Hey Garden Guy,
Welcome to the Shadegardens List. Good to see you over here. Stick
around, lots of nice people who happen to be pretty knowledgeable about
gardening in the shade.... And a bonus ... they readily share.
have you lived on your property long? First thing I would do is simply
observe at all times of the year and make notes on what IS there before I
removed anything. Next purchase a decent wildflower guide for your State.
Begin with natives and then branch out from there to other shade

goodies to play with in your new garden-to-be.
Don't forget to have a good time...

took out 7 maxima wagon loads of metals alone to our recycling plant, 35
tires 4 of which were truck tires (18 wheelers) and buckets of glass and old
boards and trash. 45 33 gallon bags stuffed with poison ivy vines (my poor
wife) Now it is beginning to look like a woods, we are cleaning up poison
ivy still and as we work our little woods we still come across glass and
metals in the soil. We put down a woodchip pathway so that we can have 3
large planting areas under some trees. Put in spice bush for spicebush
butterfly and sassafras trees (only one lived) cut down a ton of seedling
sugar maples and other weed trees planted by our blue jays. (I seen them do
it!) We put in wild ginger, lungwort, wild geranium, scarlet trillium, blood
root, ginseng <?> golden seal, ferns (which the heat has killed I think). and
a few more. I want to plant a couple of oaks and some sweet birches. But
there it is, or at least some of it. I am trying to post quickly because my
kids need to go to work soon and i am a taxi (c;
