    Each to his/her own, but first I would trip up the tree just a bit to
let a bit more light under there and give you some room to see the plants
under the tree. Then I would mix it up a bit for color and variety as
opposed to all one groundcover. How about 2 to 3 different Epimediums in
different color of blooms with the foliage that has bronze in the leafs.
perhaps some Begonia grandis for late color in foliage and height. The Hairy
Lip Fern will do well in those conditions and has soft fuzzy-gray foliage
only getting less than a foot in height. Iris cristata makes nice spreads
and finally some mini to small hosta in good foliage colors.
