Re: [SG] Nandina domestica
Hello Bobbi,
My name is not Marge, but I am going to jump in here. My sister in
Grayson County, KY. has had this in her yard for many years. Her start came
from her husbands parents. The nursery where I worked for a bit had one
growing in the display. At a church in my sisters area the whole front of
the entrance area is landscaped with Nandina. I keep seeing them pop up
around the area. Understand some are more hardy than others.
Reason for jumping in here: when and if the contractor ever returns to
place vinyl siding on the house along with a deck we hope to begin
landscaping on the east side of the house this fall. That area is already
set in my mind to have dwarf Azalea, Paris japonica, dwarf nandina, ferns
and primula along with perhaps a few hosta. The dwarfs of any size in
containers we have thus far been unable to locate or when we do we would
have to open a sizeable loan at the bank for one shrub to bring home. Very
poor selection around here.
Anyone one growing these with success along with where do you garden and
how long has the success, or lack of, been? Do you have a good source?
Anyone playing with the dwarf varieties?
