Re: Anyone collect heucheras?

In a sort of dilatory way...am a total purple foliage nut:-) Have
not heard of a society devoted to them, however. One observation is
that the variations in the foliage of the purple foliage types is
actually only really noticeable on close inspection. In the border,
planted adjacent to each other, they tend to meld and distinctions
vanish. Doesn't mean I don't love each and every one, it's just that
they aren't all that different en masse. IMO they need to be planted
with silver or blue or yellow/gold foliage so that both they and the
other colored foliage is enhanced - a total bed of them is too
much:-)

They also need division every other year to remain vigorous. These
are great plants, tho'. Unfortunately bambi agrees with me and has
been nipping the leaves off mine - leaving the stems and really
getting on my nerves! I am thinking venison steaks lately; something
that seldom crossed my mind in previous years, but they are really
battering my garden this year. So, if you have a deer problem,
beware.

Have no idea why traffic is lighter this year. Could be the many
email lists now going are splintering more general topics...seems to
be a high proliferation of email lists, many of which do not seem to
have much activity, but will tend to splinter things. Could also be
that everyone is simply busy as a cat on a hot tin roof...email lists
tend to ebb and flow over time.
