Hi all,
We are forming a North American Clivia Society. You can see our temporary
web site at http://www.shieldsgardens.com/NAClivia/index.html
Our future activities will include a newsletter, a list of members to
promote communications among North American clivia lovers, and some
members-only auctions featuring prime clivia plants donated to support the
new Society.
You can join by sending dues of $20 to Mike Morri, Treasurer, at P.O. Box
192, Union City, MI 49094. We encourage all residents of North America,
from southern-most Mexico to northern Canada to participate.
As far was we could figure, there has been no American clivia organization,
not even any local clubs. We want to remedy that shortcoming, so once we
get up and running, we will attempt to bring people together on a regional
basis. We are also thinking about helpiong put on another Clivia
Conference in California in the future (March, 2004 or 2005) .
Most of my clivias were moved outdoors into the lath house in early
May. Unfortunately, the continuing wet weather we have been having is not
really good for them. If it doesn't stop, we will have to get them under
shelter to dry out, I'm afraid.
I'm tickled to see some out-of-season blooms showing up on some of the
clivias. That way I will have fresh out-of-season clivia seeds a year
later. I have several scapes starting on my big red-orange Belgian hybrid,
#303.A as well as on one of its seedlings from ['Doris' x #303.A]. There
are also bloom scapes on two plants from Dave Conway: 'Sunset Sunrise' and
'Tiny Tim' as well as on a plant I just got from South Africa, ["Aurea" X
"Tropical Sunset"]. I'll post pictures when they bloom to my clivia web pages.
