Hi Shade people,
Sorry to take so long to answer or input but wanted to relay what happens here
with my hyper-tufa caonainers. I live in zone 6 aprox 20-25 mi. west of NYC
and my troughs are apprx.6-7 years old the newest just 1 year old. The largest
is located on the west side of my property aprox.29 feet from any building .
The others are scattered about the property on the south side of my property.
As you know some years we get snow cover and other years we don't. I do not do
anything to protect my troughs or plants through the winter and haven't lost
anything so far. I do have a problem with squirrels digging things up so I use
chicken wire as a screen for a week or two when planting my troughs.
I have a number of different perennials planted some of which are various
thymes,
sedums, saxifraga's,Allium cyanem, primulla bullsiana, veronica prostrata and
Chiastophyllum, and even a dwarf Thunga either DeGroot Spire or DeGrriff
Spire, sorry I can't recall the correct name.
If you keep your plants in scale to your container I do not believe you will
have any trouble wintering over.
Regards and best of luck, Janet
