Hi Jennifer:
The spiderworts( Tradescantia vars.) will grow in fairly heavy shade but will
not bloom, except sparsely.
Sounds as if your plants need some acid. Sprinkle some Aluninum Sulphate
around them. Scratch in lightly and water.
