Bobbi:
In order to kill slugs with an ammonia solution, you must spray the
slug directly. I use a 1 to 8 solution and it vaporizes the little
devils on contact!

Margaret, would it work to spray ammonia/water on the plants? The slugs in
my yard tend to be small, hard to see, and few in number. I have actually
only found ONE slug so far this year, and it was 3/8" long. But several of
my hostas are showing a bit of slug damage (generally those with thinner
leaves) and if I could spray just those hostas that tend to be vulnerable
each evening for a few days, that would work for me. But once the solution
dried, does it remain effective? I assume rain would wash the ammonia
solution off the plants too, and we've had a ton o' rain.
